Am I Eligible?

Housing eligibility varies by Public Housing and HCV (Section 8) programs. MHA staff evaluate each application and make an eligibility decision. Here are some general guidelines MHA uses to access your eligibility.

• Income limits: Income limits vary each year. Check the current income limit table for this information.
• Background screening: Background screening is done based on the program you are applying for. The background screening could include criminal history, eviction records, ability to pay rent, and previous landlord references.
• Family Composition: Households are assigned a specific number of bedrooms based on family size, usually 1-2 people per bedroom. Learn more about this under occupancy limits.
• Identification: All adult household members must have a valid photo ID.
• Social Security number/citizenship: Each household member must have a Social Security number or certify that he/she has no number. Each household member must provide information regarding citizenship status.

Why You Could Be Denied

• If any household member has been evicted and/or owes a balance from a federally funded housing development.
• If any household member is required to register as a lifetime sex offender.
• If any household member has been convicted or found guilty of producing methamphetamine on subsidized properties.
• If any portion of the background screening does not meet MHA policy requirements.
